Summary:
American Beauty is an absolutely incredible film about real life. Lester (played by Kevin Spacey) is a 42 year old man who is going through a major mid life crisis. The beginning of the film shows how incredibly unsatisfied he is with life. It then progresses to Lester making changes in order to ?wake up from a coma? of boredom he feels he has been in for 20 years. His troubled teenager struggles to find herself and his estranged wife attempts to hold together a failing marriage while carrying on a secret affair.

Why You Should See This Movie:
This film is absolute perfection on so many levels. The acting is absolutely astounding. All involved did an incredible job at creating distinct characters and making them all cooky but believable. Kevin Spacey continues his run as a dynamic and flexible actor who can play any part asked of him. The movie is not fast paced but the script is so incredible that you remain intrigued throughout. There is very little action but the honest real relationships portrayed are truly the meat of the film. The director masterfully used music, camera angles, metaphors, symbols and props to create a powerful effective film. The script itself is also fabulous depicting real life situations that strike a chord with everyone on some level. The conclusion of the film is given away in the first minute of the film, but how the characters get there remains a mystery throughout and the twists along the way are well thought out and make perfect logical sense.

Why You Shouldn't See This Movie:
This film depicts some very adult themes such as drugs, divorce, sex, and graphic violence. It is also a very free spirited and open minded and most likely will not agree with everyone.

Conclusion:
American Beauty is a classic film that succeeds on multiple levels with incredible acting and directing performances to go along with fabulous film effects and an incredible script.
