Summary:
The Departed is a convoluted account of the relationship between organized crime and the police in an urban American city. Jack Nicholson plays the mob boss pulling all the strings and Leonardo DiCaprio and Matt Damon play police officers both deceiving the people they work for. As the deception grows, the stakes increase to a point that who will survive to the end becomes the mystery.

Why You Should See This Movie:
With names like Scorcese, Nicholson, DiCaprio, it is pretty difficult for this film to fail, and it most definitely does not. The acting by the above and several other great supporting roles (Martin Sheen, Mark Wahlberg, etc.) is oscar worthy and a huge strength of the film. The movie is 2 hours and 40 mins long, but is so entertaining that is hardly seems that lengthy. Scorcese expertly adds great background music, symbolic shots of rats, and presents a complicated story in a surprisingly clear way.

Why You Shouldn't See This Movie:
The film is very violent and full of language that is sure to make you blush so it is most definitely not for those who are easily offended. My only reason for not giving this film a 5 overall is the few plot inconsistencies that made me think during the movie.

Conclusion:
The Departed is an excellent film presented by a legendary director and acted by oscar worthy performers. If violence and language dont bother you, you have to see this film.
