Summary:
Raging Bull is the movie version of a book written about Jake La Motta, a middleweight boxer in the 1940's and 50's. The movie starts out in a fight and quickly gets into La Motta's reputation of a reckless fighter who attempts to overcome his opponent with intensity rather than technique. The film continues on to tell of La Motta's personal life as well as his insatiable request to become the best middleweight in the world.

Why You Should See This Movie:
A lot of people consider Raging Bull to be Martin Scorsese's best film, and I would have to agree, although I have only seen a few of his films. The movie has real emotion and power behing Robert De Niro's performance as La Motta. De Niro does an incredible job at showing tenacity in the ring and sometimes uncontrollable emotion with his family. Some of the lines delivered are of the most famous in cinematic history such as "I could have been a contender". The movie is in black and white despite being released in the 80's, however it works well and also tones down some of the more graphic boxing scenes. Scorsese does a fabulous job at letting De Niro run with the character as well as crafting scenes to create a mood with camera angles and scenery. The story of La Motta is intriguing and although I cant vouch for its accuracy, is told well.

Why You Shouldn't See This Movie:
Some of the boxing scenes are very graphic and could be offensive to some, and I think sometimes the black and white immediately turns some people off.

Conclusion:
Raging Bull is a film by Martin Scorsese that brings the story of Jake La Motta to the big screen with raw power and emotion that makes it a classic for all time.
