Review:

Summary:
Maria Full of Grace is a film about a poor young woman in Columbia struggling to survive. Catalina Sandino Moreno plays the young woman who quits her job after an argument with her boss. She also finds out that she is pregnant with her boyfriend?s baby and does not have any intention to marry him. She is contacted by a distant relative about being a courier carrying drugs from Columbia to New York, by swallowing the drugs. She is initially apprehensive, but the temptation of a big paycheck is too much to resist.
Why You Should See This Movie:
Catalina Sandino Moreno has been nominated for the Oscar for best actress, probably deservedly so. She is impressive in the role and convincing as a woman unsure of herself and the decisions she is making. My problem with her being the best actress of last year is the subtitles that are difficult to see through to find the acting performance. The film is shocking in terms of content and what women in Columbia are tempted with in order to survive. The story is well presented and entertaining as you watch to see the outcome of the horrible situation.
Why You Shouldn't See This Movie:
The content of the story is very mature and definitely not fit for children or those offended easily by drug use and the poor treatment of women.
Conclusion:
Maria Full of Grace is a powerful film about the horrible temptation presented to young women in Columbia that is bolstered by good acting and an interesting story.
