Summary:
Garden State is an artsy romantic comedy about Andrew Largeman (Zach Braff) an average guy with a horrible past. The movie begins with Andrew?s father (Ian Holm) leaving him a message that Andrew?s mother has died in a bathtub drowning accident. Andrew flies home to attend his mothers funeral and relive his family and friends of his past. While visiting home, he meets a strange new girl (Natalie Portman) that he finds himself attracted to and curious about.

Why You Should See This Movie:
This film really was a surprise hit to me. Zach Braff actually wrote, directed and starred in the film and I was very impressed with all three of his performances. I don?t really like Braff?s first hit the TV show Scrubs, but in this film, he is calm and very believable in his role. Portman also does a great job at being a strange, attractive love interest that catches Andrew?s attention. The film is really about nothing other than a view of two people?s everyday lives, but it is very interesting and captures your attention and holds it throughout the film. The directing by Braff was awesome, as he creates a quirky, yet well put together film. The story is great with funny characters and situations, as well as a pretty great moral lesson.

Why You Shouldn't See This Movie:
The film is a romantic comedy, yet not one that fits the usual mold, that some people could find too odd or off color. The film also is a bit liberal in the first few minutes with a graphic drug/sex party, as well as some foul language that could be offensive to some.

Conclusion:
Garden State is a well put together, yet quirky romantic comedy that I would recommend to anyone.
