Summary:
Cinderella Man is the story of James J. Braddock (Russell Crowe), a heavyweight boxer in the late 20?s and 30?s during the Great Depression. The film starts with Braddock as a successful up and coming boxer headed for a fabulous life with his wife (Renee Zellweger) and kids. The devastating effects of the crash of the stock market in 1929, however, changed their lives completely as they struggled to survive. Braddock catches a break when his derailed boxing career begins to head in the right direction, and hope for a good life becomes a possibility.

Why You Should See This Movie:
This film to me was absolutely stunning. It instantly jumped to one of my top ten movies of all time. I was so emotionally invested in the movie that as the last half hour went by, I found myself physically shaking with fear, anticipation, excitement, or something. Everything about this film was just incredible. Crowe, Zellweger and Paul Giamatti (as Braddock?s trainer) were all perfect in their roles each bringing a performance that I think could easily win at next year?s Oscars. Crowe demonstrates the emotional power and determination men must have felt in the depression as they gave everything they had to provide for their family. Zellweger is awesome as the wife who attempts to be a rock for her children, and simultaneously protect and support her husband?s career choice. Finally, Giamatti provided some of the most memorable moments by an actor in recent memory. His facial expressions at times as well as his trash talking managerial approach are classic. The film is 2 and ? hours long, and when I watched it I was exhausted as the start time was 10:30 PM. I was sure I would fall asleep, but the film grabbed me right off the start and I was more awake and interested than I have been in a movie for a long time. Ron Howard puts together an emotional powerhouse film with incredible boxing scenes to result in an incredible directorial performance. Finally, the story which is truly one of the best sports stories I have witnessed on the big screen is filled with real, true emotion and an inspirational story of our country?s greatest generation.

Why You Shouldn't See This Movie:
There is no reason anyone should not see this film in the theater where the true power and strength of the film can be experienced.

Conclusion:
Cinderella Man is hands down the best sports movie of all time, and even one of the better film?s in any genre. The raw emotion and power combined with incredible acting and directing performances make it an instant classic that everyone should see.
