Review:
By Ute
Summary:
Batman Begins is the fifth installment to the Batman movie series which actually occurs before any of the other films. In this movie, Bruce Wayne?s childhood is visited as well as his journey from a man to a superhero.
Why You Should See This Movie:
Batman enthusiasts will likely be impressed by this film as it fills a huge void for them in the story of the beginning of Batman. Christian Bale was pretty impressive as Bruce Wayne, but not quite so good as Batman. I thought Michael Keaton is still the best of the four attempted Batman?s. Bale did a good job, however as the smooth, cool Wayne. The movie also does a good job with the special effects, i.e. the batmobile, action scenes.
Why You Shouldn't See This Movie:
Those that aren?t Batman fans will likely be pretty unimpressed with this movie. I have seen reviews that claim this is the best movie of the year, and I must vehemently disagree. I thought there were a lot of weaknesses to this film. First of which is the movie to me was very boring. I found myself struggling to stay awake as the plot jumped too much and left too much unexplained especially in the beginning. I also thought the casting was very poor. For whatever reason, Michael Caine did not work for me as Wayne?s butler, and Morgan Freeman is way too good an actor to lower himself to the level of the gadget dude. Another issue I had compared to other Batman movies was the lack of an interesting and well acted villain. Jack Nicholson set the standard in the original movie and this one didn?t even come close to the level of Nicholson.
Conclusion:
Batman Begins is a decent comic book movie that Batman enthusiasts will like, otherwise, you will likely be pretty unimpressed with this movie.
