Summary:
The Aviator is the biographical story of Howard Hughes, the brilliantly successful businessman in the early 20th century who built an empire of entertainment and transportation businesses. This film starts with Hughes exploring his abilities to make movies with the enormous fortune he has been left with. It goes on to show how he became one of the richest men in the world, founded the airline giant TWA, and also fell from grace due to his mental problems.

Why You Should See This Movie:
Anyone interested in historical movies will appreciate this attempt to bring the life of Howard Hughes to the screen. Leonardo DiCaprio does a pretty great job at bringing the genius, yet craziness of Hughes to the big screen. Cate Blanchett, however was phenomenal as Kathryn Hepburn inserting life into every scene she was a part of. The film was pretty entertaining, but probably a bit too long at just under 3 hours. Some of the scenes were pretty incredible such as the airplane crash scene, as well as the senate hearings, but most of the film was pretty disjointed and almost boring.

Why You Shouldn't See This Movie:
While Hughes life was incredible and worth a long movie, I felt the direction by Martin Scorsese was lacking demonstrated by its lack of congruity and any type of flow. The film felt like a jumbled mess of scenes that didn?t connect well at all.

Conclusion:
The Aviator is a mildly entertaining film that does a decent job of bringing the life of Howard Hughes to the big screen, yet poor directing and writing left me wondering what might have been with such great material.
