Summary:
Lord of the Rings: The Return of the King is the final installment of Peter Jackson?s adaptation of J.R.R. Tolkeins? popular fantasy books. The final chapter follows the characters of the first books and the conclusions of their stories. Aragorn, Legolas and Gimli travel a dark road to come to the aid of the besieged city of Minis Tirith. Gandalf and Pippin travel to the same city early in the movie in order to prepare for the onslaught by Sauron?s forces. Frodo and Sam meanwhile continue their journey to Mordor led by Gollum in an attempt to destroy the ring in the mountain of fire.

Why You Should See This Movie:
If you have seen the first two movies, then it is a no brainer that you should see this one. At the very least it is as good as the first two, and arguably the best of the series. The acting performances by nearly everyone are oscar worthy in the depth and emotion portrayed throughout, most notably by Sean Astin as Sam and Ian Mckellen as Gandalf. Although 3 ? hours long, the movie has so much story to tell, it does not feel nearly as long as it is. The action is fabulous with absolutely stunning visual effects created mostly digitally but also with incredible shots of gigantic battle scenes, such as the attack by the cavalry of Rohan on the siege of Minis Tirith. The story is unquestionably fantastic with incredible depth and power. Jackson takes a few liberties with the book, but in my opinion all the changes work well and the parts left out will more than likely be seen in his extended edition due out this December

Why You Shouldn't See This Movie:
The only reason not to see this movie is if you have missed the first two. While being so powerful and impressive as to warrant a viewing without seeing the others, you would more than likely be very confused. Other than that there is no reason not to see this film awarded best picture of 2003 by the academy awards.

Conclusion:
The Lord of the Rings: The Return of the King is a powerful, stunning conclusion to the Lord of the Rings trilogy that is an absolute must see on the big screen in order to grasp the full scope of the effects. It truly deserved to be the best film of 2003.
