Review:

Summary:
The Manchurian Candidate is a remake of the film from 1962 by the same name recounting the story of a bogus vice presidential candidate elected to office. In this version, the candidate has had a computer chip implanted into his brain and is being controlled by a persuasive and powerful organization with the intent to control the highest office in the United States. Liev Shcreiber plays Raymond Shaw, a decorated Persian Gulf War hero who is the vice presidential candidate. When his old war buddy Ben Marco (Denzel Washington) begins to uncover evidence that there is a conspiracy, plans begin to unravel and extreme measures are taken to protect the plan to overtake the White House.
Why You Should See This Movie:
Haven not seen the original film, I cant compare this movie to the first, but I can say that this version was decent. Denzel Washington always brings power and incredible acting to the screen and does not disappoint here. The other actors, however were nothing to speak of. The film is mildly entertaining and does a good job at creating a film with suspense intrigue. The plot and direction were good, but nothing special.
Why You Shouldn't See This Movie:
There is a bit of violence in the film and it is definitely a mature film. It also is probably not your first choice unless you are into the action/suspense genre.
Conclusion:
The Manchurian Candidate is a decent film that benefits from the presence of Denzel Washington, but definitely is not oscar worthy.
